Paige Hansen

Lab Manager/Technical Associate in the MIT Department of Biological Engineering

Paige researches immunological host interactions with Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb), the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, including sexual dimorphisms, bacterial clearance, bacterial persistence, bacterial dissemination, and disease severity/outcomes. Bacteria have mechanisms to evade immune system clearance, which she investigates to examine if this provides bacteria with an avenue to persist in the body post-antibiotic treatment. Furthermore, Paige supports our clinical study in managing our biobank and investigating differences and similarities of the immune response and disease presentation in Chronic Lyme, Long-COVID and other chronic diseases, with the goal of improving care for these patients.
